I am a very nearly almost normal 18 year old girl from Norway. Call me whatever you will, but I usually go by Maja.

Multifandom. Multiship. (If I do not ship it it does not mean I hate it.) Way too many tags. Lots of fangirling. Regular untagged NSFW stuff.

I am so sorry for not being around, school and exams are really taking up all of my time :'c

The last couple of days I’ve been thinking a lot about representation and what I mean when I talk about it, what others mean, what different types there are, and how maybe some of the arguments we’re having are because we’re not really working with the same assumptions based on…

My comment response to this article was as follows:

Wow, way to completely stereotype, demean, and marginalize the “most intense” fans in four short paragraphs. I’m going to sit back and watch this blow up in your face, because it’s not good, it’s not cute, it’s not funny. It’s REALLY not.

This article really highlights how little you and your ‘sterek expert’ (HA!) know about Sterek and about the Sterek fandom. It’s not about the sex. It’s about the relationship. It’s about the intensity. It’s the sterek connection they’ve begun to forge. It’s about the potential the two of them have to save one another from the things which have hurt them in the past. It’s the bond they have an opportunity to forge in the future, through the hardships we all know they are going to face.

Sterek fans are not all “young women” out to see “two hunky characters” have “sexytime” and frankly I’m appalled anyone let any part of that idea through editing. Talk about perpetuating stereotypes we are trying desperately to show and tell you are untrue and unfair! WOW. Way to completely cut out the large portion of our fandom that aren’t women at all, and the portion of the fandom that consists of an older demographic, like myself.

When I read this article, all I read was “Haha aren’t you kids cute in your corner playing make believe away from the adults. Have some candy, I don’t even know what kind it is or if you’ll like it.”

Ugh. You guys are supposed to be our friends. We’re supposed to be a part of your pack, howling for your network ratings, for your network’s show. This article should have been a celebration for our fandom; this article should have been exultant, it should have been something we could pass around with pride, to say ‘Look, we accomplished something! We brought Teen Wolf and Sterek into the light of media coverage once more!” We should be able to howl excitedly for having done something wonderful. We should feel happiness and pride and a sense of camaraderie with you.

Instead, all I feel is back stabbed.

Post Script: In case you were wondering, like maybe you just don’t know, this is what the article should have looked like, to not insult or otherwise degrade the people you want to care about you and like your article:

Every MTV show has its own fan nation, a fandom if you will, but out of all of them, the “Teen Wolf” contingent is hands-down the most intense — specifically the subset that can be heard on many occasions howling out, “WE WANT STEREK!” This time they have done it again, dominating by a very, very long shot in the E!Online Fantasy TV Couples tournament and having their Derek/Stiles ship crowned victorious after fans out-voted 31 other fan-favorite television ships in a two-week-long, elimination-style poll! Guess that goes to show- never mess with the wolf pack! ((Look, I said what you said, except I didn’t even degrade anyone! Witchcraft? Nope, no, that’s just tact.))

We asked Rae Votta, a writer at our sister site, VH1.com, to chime in on the phenomenon, and she had this to say: “Sterek is the perfect storm of fandom shipping — two totally attractive guys, that tension-filled canon relationship where they sort of hate each other but clearly care, and you’ve got supernatural elements clouding their paths. It’s a wonder Sterek and a legion of its supportive fans don’t take over the entire world.” ((look, I totally didn’t insult anyone here either!))

Even Executive Producer Jeff Davis doesn’t deny the force Sterek brings to the table. “I continue to be amazed at the tenacity of Sterek fans to not only win these online polls but literally throttle the competition,” he tells E! Online. “I think Tyler [Hoechlin] and Dylan [O’Brien] will be very proud to know that the characters they helped create have inspired so much dedication and love. Congrats to the Stereks!” ((you’ll note Jeff did it right, so I don’t have to change any of this, maybe you should ask him for a lesson too))

In honor of this impressive achievement, we at Remote Control think the fans deserve a special token of appreciation. May we present in thanks: a gif wall chock full of Sterek goodness, including one brand new image straight from the captain of our “Teen Wolf ” Tumblr ship! ((here is where you would link actual Sterek gifs, not Hobrien gifs, and you would actually know the difference between the two because they aren’t the same at all okay))

I hope that this has helped you. Next time, do better.
